The performance begins at 6 p.m. and will go to 9:30 p.m.

The Sound of Music at Hanover Theatre 

The musical story of Maria and the von Trapp Family will thrill audiences with its Tony, Grammy and Academy Award winning Best Score, including My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Climb Evry Mountain, Edelweiss and the title song. 

The show runs from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday night.

First Night Worcester 

First Night is set to hold its 35th-anniversary celebration on New Year's Eve in downtown Worcester. 

The celebration runs from 10 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. throughout the City of Worcester. 

The fireworks will be set off from the top of Bell Hill around and will be visible from anywhere in the First Night area. 

There will also be performances from the Worcester Kiltie Band, who are just coming off of a win at the 2016 World Pipe Band Championships in Scotland, as well as Nashville recording artist Steve Dorian.

Helmutt on the Move at Worcester Art Museum  

Helmutt is an armor-wearing boar hound statue; his armor is based on the plate dog armor of a hunting hound of Emperor Charles V. Leonard Heinrich, who was the armorer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, made Helmutts armor as a gift to John Woodman Higgins in 1942.

The exhibit is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

National Marionette Theatre at Old Sturbridge Village

The National Marionette Theatre will show the last of their four shows on New Year's Eve in the form of the classic tale of Hansel and Gretal. 

Performances are 50 minutes in length, with three performances beginning at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.
