Worcester to Celebrate Revolution of 1774 in September

Friday, August 22, 2014

Worcester Revolution of 1774 – a consortium of historical and cultural organizations – will host a day-long event full of activities for families, all aimed at celebrating Worcester County’s role in starting the American Revolution.

Programming will take place from 10 am to 5 pm at various locations in and around Institute Park in Worcester. The event is free to the public with activities for all ages.

“We have strived to create a setting that will attract citizens to the unique and historic role of Worcester,” said Michael Fishbein, a spokesperson for Worcester Revolution of 1774. “We want to raise awareness of this pivotal event in American History.”

Among the event’s activities will be a professional play by telling the story of the Worcester Revolution by James David Moran, colonial crafts and music, kid’s activities, a book signing by author Ray Raphael, historical reenactments, food, and more.

“In September 1774, thousands of Central Massachusetts militiamen put an end to British rule in rural Massachusetts,” said a flyer promoting the event. “Two years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the men and women of Worcester County fought and won their own revolution – without firing a shot.”

For more information on the event or to help support the project as a volunteer or donor, visit http://www.revolution 1774.org.
