Worcester Police warn of scam targeting elderly

The Worcester Police Department is advising the public about a scam targeting senior citizens.

According to police, the victims are told their grandchild is in trouble with the law and needs cash for bail.

Scam Incident

On July 30, 2019, an elderly man received a call from a man impersonating his grandson, telling him he had been arrested in New York and needed money for bail.

The man then stated that his attorney will be in touch with the victim to secure his release.

Minutes later, another man called the victim posing as an attorney representing the grandchild.

The victim was told to withdraw thousands of dollars in cash.

After the phone calls, the victim contacted his daughter and learned that his grandchild was safe.
