Major City Police Chiefs Endorse Baker-Polito for Re-Election

"All the men and women of our organization collectively agree that your administration has been doing an outstanding job over the past four years, specifically as it pertains to enhancing public safety in our cities and towns and taking an exceptional leadership role in addressing the opioid epidemic in our state," said Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes, president of the Massachusetts Major City Chiefs of Police Association in a statement.
It is the group’s first-ever endorsement in its 15-year history.
Backing Baker
The endorsement comes after Baker signed a bill authorizing a new $2 surcharge on every vehicle rental contract in Massachusetts, with the first $10 million raised going toward police training programs.
Kyes said the governor's support for that bill played a role in members of his group voting unanimously Tuesday at a meeting in Everett to back Baker and Polito.

The group includes Boston, Springfield, and Worcester, is led by Kyes, vice president and Arlington Chief Fred Ryan, secretary and Weymouth Chief Richard Grimes, and treasurer John LeLacheur, chief of police in Lynn.
The group represents police chiefs in Massachusetts’ 39 largest cities.
