Holy Cross Falls 68-60 to UMass at DCU Center

“You know we had a real rough start and then we sort of settled down after whatever it was the first six minutes. We had 10 turnovers in the first half and then second half we went on a nice little stretch there, but give them credit. They just sort of wore us down,” said Holy Cross head coach Bill Carmody in his press conference after the game.
UMass improves to 3-1 on the year, while Holy Cross falls to 0-3 this season.
“I think we have a chance to do some things. I think I saw some good things out there and there are things that we can get better at,” Carmody said.
Holy Cross Falls Short
After the score was tied at the half, Holy Cross took their first lead, 31-29, following an Anthony Thompson three-pointer with 17-52 left to play in the game.
Over the next few minutes, the lead changed hands five times before UMass took control of the game using a 10-0 run, giving them a 44-35 lead with 12:40 left to play.
Over the next six minutes, Holy Cross wold go on a 15-6 run to tie the game at 50 with 6:45 to play in the game, before the Minutemen would use an 11-0 run to close the game.
For the game, UMass turned the ball over 23 times, but shot 50% from the field. By comparison, Holy Cross only shot 30% from the field.
The Leaders
Alexander and Thompson led the Crusaders with 14 points each, while Patrick Benzan followed up with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Alexander scored his points on 4 of 14 shooting from the field and 3 of 8 from the free throw line, while Thompson got his points on 4 of 10 shooting from the field and 4 of 7 from the free throw line.
Patrick Benzan had the best shooting night of the three, going 4 of 8 from the free throw line and hitting all four free throws.

Holy Cross returns to action on Tuesday, November 22 when they visit Harvard.
Game time is set for 7 p.m.
