Wednesday, April 03, 2019

The Worcester Chamber Music Society.

The Worcester Chamber Music Society will feature work by blacklisted composers Gubaidulina, Mendelssohn, and Korngold during a performance at Assumption College.

“Each of these composers work encompasses urgent and sweeping themes, which are brought with brilliant writing and deep emotion. They are a joy to perform and we know it will be a performance our audience will not forget,” said WCMS Executive Director Tracy Kraus.

The performance will take place on Friday, April 12, 2019, at 7:30 p.m. at the Jeanne Y. Curtis Hall.

The Performance

The program will feature musicians of WCMS performing pieces from Sofia Gubaidulina’s most significant chamber music works, In the Garden of Joy and Sorrow; the yearning and virtuosity of Felix Mendelssohn’s recognized, Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor; and Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s passionate Piano Quintet in E Major.

This event will commemorate each of these composers who were blacklisted from their home countries and whose unique chamber work has become admired and imitated by composers for generations to come.
