Holy Cross Beats Georgetown 24-10 in Final Home Game

Sunday, October 29, 2017

The Holy Cross Crusaders football team closed out their regular season home schedule with a 24-10 win over the Georgetown Hoyas at Fitton Field.

“Me and some of the other 5th year seniors were kind of joking around that we have been playing for a half decade here, but it’s great obviously everybody wants to go out with a win on senior day, so that was awesome,” said senior quarterback Peter Pujals, who threw for 262 yards and a touchdown in his final home game.

With the win, Holy Cross improves to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in the Patriot League.

Georgetown opened the scoring with a 24-yard field goal by Brad Hurst at the 3:02-mark of the first quarter after a blocked punt to take a 3-0 lead.

The Crusaders responded with 13 straight second quarter points to take a 13-3 lead at the half.

In the second half, senior running back Gabe Guild scored on a one-yard run, while freshman placekicker Jackson McLarty added field goals of 29 and 31 yards.

The Hoyas cut into the Crusaders’ lead with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Gunther Johnson to Tommy Jesson to make the score 13-10. But the Crusaders then put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 24-yard McLarty field goal and a one-yard scoring run by Pujals.
