Holy Cross Hosts Albany Looking to Snap 2 Game Losing Streak

Friday, October 02, 2015

Head Coach Tom Gilmore

The Holy Cross Crusaders football team (1-2, 0-1 PL) will host (2-2,1-1 CAA) Albany on Saturday, October 3rd at 1 p.m. at Fitton Field.

Holy Cross is coming off of a 31-14 loss to Colgate in last week's home opener in which the Crusaders had a 14-3 second quarter lead before Colgate scored 28 straight points to get the win.

Holy Cross is in the middle of a crucial stretch of games in which four of the next five are at home and they need to have this win against Albany.

Keys to a Holy Cross Victory

For Holy Cross to get back in the win column after dropping two straight games, the Crusaders are going to have to tighten up both offensively and defensively.

Defense

Defensively, Holy Cross needs to do a better job of shutting down the run game and getting off the field. Last week, Colgate picked up 26 first downs,19 of which came from running the ball.

Colgate ran the ball 55 times and picked up 266 yards and in turn they dominated the time of possession, 40 minutes to 23 minutes.

Look for the run defense to lock in against Albany who is led in the running game by Elliot Croskey who has totaled 327 yards and three touchdowns on 87 carries.

Offense

While the defense had troubled stopping the run, the offense had trouble running the ball against Colgate.

The Crusaders only ran for 69 yards on 24 carries allowing the defense to to focus on the passing game and adding more pressure to Pujals. The Crusaders like to have a balanced attack  and need to establish a run game early in this one with Diquan Walker.

Holy cross will have to be extra careful holding onto the ball. The Great Danes come in  leading the country with 14 forced turnovers (eight interceptions, six fumble recoveries) so far this season.

Flaherty and Hennessey to Ring of Honor

At halftime of the game, Harry Flaherty and Tom Hennessey will become the 19th and 20th individuals to be inducted into the Crusader Football Legends Ring of Honor.
