Man arrested by Worcester Police on gun charges following foot chase

A man was arrested by Worcester Police following a foot chase in the area of Hawley Street on Tuesday night.

Daquan Campbell, 20, is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, disorderly conduct, malicious destruction of property under $250, and the warrant.

The Incident

On Tuesday, August 13 at about 6:50 p.m., Worcester Police Gang Unit officers were on patrol in the area of Hawley Street when they recognized a male, Campbell of Beacon Street, who they knew had a warrant for his arrest.

They stepped out of the cruiser, identified themselves as police, and asked to speak with Campbell, who took off in a full sprint toward Austin Street. Officers followed him, and chased him over several fences and around the neighborhood.

During the chase, an officer grabbed Campbell as Campbell was climbing a fence.

Campbell kicked his foot, causing the officer to lose control. Eventually, officers caught up with  Campbell in front of 1 Merrick St. He was placed under arrest and transported to the station by the wagon.

At one point during the chase,  Campbell threw a metal object under a car as they all ran past it.

Officers recovered a black and silver handgun. Campbell does not have a license to carry a firearm.
