The Incident
On Monday, March 26 at approximately 6:13 p.m., Worcester Police responded to Prospect Street for a reported armed robbery of a cab driver. Upon arrival, the officer met with the 51-year-old male victim.
The officer was told that he had picked up a fare on Chandler Street and drove him to Plumley Village. As the driver was approaching the destination he asked for the fare from the passenger. At that time the man suspect brandished a knife and pointed it at the driver. The suspect then demanded money and his phone from the driver.
The driver stated that he grabbed the suspect’s wrist so he wouldn’t get cut from the knife. For several minutes the two men struggled over control of the knife. The suspect was eventually able to break free. The suspect exited the cab and was last seen running on Prospect Street. During the struggle the driver received a small cut on his finger. The driver declined medical attention.
Several officers arrived at the scene and searched the area for the suspect. The search provided negative results.
Investigators responded and spoke with witnesses; they also reviewed security camera footage. Investigators are currently working on identifying the suspect.
This investigation is ongoing.
