The Holy Cross Crusaders football team is set to open its 124th season on Saturday afternoon when they visit Navy.

The Crusaders are looking to build on a 2018 season in which they went 5-6 overall, but 4-2 in the Patriot League, good enough to end in a tie for second.

Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.

The game can be seen on the CBS Sports Network.

Holy Cross vs Navy

This week’s game will be the first-ever meeting between the Crusaders and the Midshipmen on the football field.

Navy is coming off a 2018 season in which it went 3-10 overall with a 2-6 mark in the American Athletic Conference.

Holy Cross Offense

On the offensive side of the ball, Holy Cross returns the entire offensive line which helped the team to rank second in the Patriot League in total offense (327.3 yards per game), rushing (132.5 yards per game) and scoring (24.4 points per game) last season.

Senior left guard Brett Boddy and junior left tackle Brian Foley will lead the way upfront.

Holy Cross also returns senior running back Domenic Cozier.

Last season, Cozier rushed for 643 yards and eight touchdowns on 130 carries.

Holy Cross Defense

On defense, the Crusaders return four starters from last season.

Last season, Holy Cross ranked third in the Patriot League in scoring defense at 26 points per game, while allowing 369.2 yards per contest.

Junior defensive back Joe Lang totaled 77 tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss, four pass breakups and two forced fumbles in 2018.

Senior defensive back Alex Johnson added 62 tackles and a team-high seven pass breakup a year ago, while senior defensive back Corey Stefanik posted 37 tackles, two sacks and six tackles for loss.
