Man Arrested in Connection With The Stabbing of a Worcester Taxi Driver

A man has been arrested in the stabbing of a Worcester taxi driver that took place on April 16.

Robert Rutledge, 35, of 48 Everard St #2, was arrested for charges of Armed Assault with Intent to Murder, Armed Robbery while Masked, Carjacking, and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.

Rutledge was arrested at his residence on the warrant.

The Incident

As GoLocalWorcester reported, On April 16 at about 3:10 p.m., Worcester Police officers were dispatched to the area of Edward St for a report of a possible stabbing. Upon arrival, they spoke with the victim, a 54-year-old driver for a cab company. Officers saw that the man was bleeding from the right side of his neck.

Officers spoke with witnesses, who reported that an unknown male had been struggling with the driver, and that a knife was involved. The suspect had been a passenger in the cab before he abruptly exited the cab and tried to remove the driver from the front seat. Officers confirmed that the victim was stabbed in the neck during the struggle. The suspect was described as a thin, 5’10” male with a dark complexion, wearing a black jacket and a gray hooded sweatshirt. He fled on foot toward the Eastern Ave area.

The victim’s injuries are not expected to the life-threatening. He was transported to the hospital by paramedics.
