96-Year-Old Woman Seriously Injured in Park Ave Crash Passes Away

Saturday, August 20, 2016

The 96-year-old woman who was seriously injured in a car crash on Wednesday, August 17 has passed away due to her injuries. Worcester Police were informed of her passing on Friday.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time.

The Accident

Worcester Police responded to the intersection of Park Ave and Lovell Streets for a report of a serious motor vehicle accident involving multiple vehicles. Worcester Police Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene to conduct the initial investigation.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Jeep Cherokee was travelling north on Park Ave towards a construction site. As the Jeep approached the construction site, the operator changed lanes without yielding to adjacent traffic. In doing so, the Jeep collided with a 2007 Buick. The collision forced the operator of the Buick to lose control of her car, driving up and over the curbing and onto the sidewalk. The Buick continued forward and struck a construction vehicle which was parked in the construction zone. The Buick came to rest in the middle of Park Ave.

Paramedics responded to the scene and treated the 96-year-old female passenger of the Buick for a serious leg injury. The woman was transported to a local hospital where she is currently being treated. The 59 year old female driver of the Buick was also transported to a local hospital and is being treated for neck and chest pain.

Worcester Police Crash Reconstruction is actively investigating the scene. Worcester Police Crime Scene Unit responded to take photographs and collect evidence.
