Tuesday, July 24, 2018

A Worcester man was arrested in the area of Burncoat Street after breaking into a home and stealing jewelry and clothing.

Ronald Vancelette was placed under arrest and charged with willful and malicious destruction of property (screen), breaking and entering in the daytime with the intent to commit a felony, larceny over the value $1,200 and receiving stolen property over the value of $1,200.

The Incident

On Friday, July 20, at approximately 12:50 p.m., Worcester police responded to a Burncoat Street home for a report of a breaking and entering that was in progress.

Upon the officers arrival they met with one of the occupants. Police were told that a man, later identified as Vancelette, 47, of 830-A West Boylston Street, was seen inside the home without anyone’s knowledge or consent.

The officers were told that Vancelette jumped out of the bathroom window and damaged the window screen. The occupant chased after Vancelette for a brief moment as he ran towards West Boylston Street. The occupant was able to provide the officers with a detailed physical and clothing description to the officers.

Several police units started to search the area. One of the Neighborhood Response Team (NRT) members saw a man that matched the suspect’s description, the suspect was spotted walking in the area of West Boylston Street and Trottier Street. The officer observed Vancelette remove two rings from his fingers and throw them to the ground while looking into a bag. The contents of the bag were later confirmed to be jewelry and electronic devices that belonged to the Burncoat Street home.

The NRT member detained Vancelette while the occupant of the home was transported to the location of the stop. The purpose of transporting the occupant to the scene was to either confirm or deny the identification of the suspect. The occupant provided a positive identification.
