18-Year-Old Man Seriously Injured Following Motorcycle Crash in Worcester

Wednesday, September 05, 2018

An 18-year-old Worcester man was seriously injured following a motorcycle accident in the area of Webster Street on Sunday night.

This investigation remains active. Investigators will be conducting a full mechanical inspection on the motorcycle to determine if any mechanical deficiencies may have been a contributing factor leading up to the crash.

The Incident

On Sunday, September 2,  at approximately 9:50 p.m., Worcester Police responded to the area of 76 Webster Street for a report of a motorcycle accident. Upon the officers arrival they saw a Massachusetts State Trooper providing emergency medical care to the 18-year-old male operator. Shortly after the officer’s arrival, Worcester EMS and members of the Worcester Fire Department arrived at the scene and took over treating the victim. The victim was suffering from serious injuries; he was stabilized at the scene and then transported to a nearby hospital. The victim is in serious condition and currently remains in ICU.

Due to the serious nature of this single motorcycle crash, the WPD Crash Reconstruction Unit was called in to take charge of the investigation. Recon investigators arrived at approximately 10:15 p.m. Operation officers closed down Webster Street and preserved the crash scene.

Evidence was collected at the scene and processed. Recon investigators interviewed witnesses. The preliminary investigation indicates that the operator of the 2016 Kawasaki EX 300 was traveling northbound on Webster Street when the motorcycle began to skid and crossed over into the southbound travel lane. The motorcycle continued into the southbound lane and subsequently struck an aluminum light pole located on the sidewalk.

After the collision the motorcycle skidded for several feet before coming to a final rest in the southbound lane.

There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.
