Monday, March 06, 2017
Jose Peralta-Sanchez, 28, of New Jersey, Carlos Mena-Murillo, 33, and Antia Paula, 23, of New York, were arrested and charged with trafficking in a class A substance over 200 grams.
The Incident
On Thursday, March 2, members of the Worcester Police Vice Squad working in conjunction with the Worcester DEA Tactical Diversion Squad and the Worcester DEA HIDTA Task Force were conducting surveillance in the area of 388 Franklin Street in anticipation of executing a search warrant at that address. The surveillance was part of an ongoing investigation into a large scale heroin distribution organization operating within the City of Worcester. Police were also conducting surveillance of a gray Nissan Versa which was parked at the Franklin Street address.
At approximately 5:40 p.m., officers conducting surveillance saw a man (later identified as Jose Peralta-Sanchez, 28, of New Jersey) exit 388 Franklin Street, enter the above car, and drive away. Police followed the Nissan and were able to stop it on Mendon Street. During the stop, police recovered over 100 grams of heroin and $1,487 in currency from Peralta-Sanchez.
As other officers were preparing to make entry and execute the search warrant on Franklin Street, they saw two individuals (later identified as Carlos Mena-Murillo, 33, and Antia Paula, 23 , both of New York) exit the dwelling at 388 Franklin Street carrying several suitcases and approach a livery cab that had just pulled up. Officers stopped Murillo and Paula before they could enter the cab as members of the Worcester Police Swat Team made entry into the dwelling.
A search of one of the suitcases being carried by Murillo and Paula revealed more than one Kilo of heroin and $30,000 cash. A subsequent search of 388 Franklin revealed drug packaging materials, cutting agents, and other items used in the distribution of heroin.
In total, approximately 1,300 grams of heroin was seized.
