74-Year-Old Man Dies Following Car Crash in Worcester

Monday, February 13, 2017

A 74-year-old man passed away after his car crashed into a utility pole and then into a building on 617 Mill Street in Worcester.

Police believe that the man suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the car.

There is no additional information to release at this time as investigators are still processing the scene.

The Incident

On Friday, February 10 at approximately 4:00 p.m., Worcester Police were sent to 617 Mill Street for a report of a car that crashed into a business at that location. Upon arrival, police saw an unresponsive 74 year old man on the ground next to his car. The victim was already being treated by members of the Worcester Fire Department. Paramedics quickly arrived on scene and transported the man to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Due to the nature of the accident, Worcester Police Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene to investigate and document the scene. Officers were able to speak with several witnesses at the scene of the accident. The investigation revealed that the victim was operating his 2016 GMC Canyon west on Pleasant Street. As the vehicle approached the intersection of Pleasant and Mill Street, it is believed that the victim suffered a medical emergency. As a result, the victim lost control of his vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway and strike a utility pole. The vehicle continued and crashed into the building at 617 Mill Street.
