Man Arrested After Assaulting Female Roommate in Worcester Apartment
Friday, February 24, 2017
The man was charged with domestic assault and battery and malicious destruction of property over $250.
The identities of the two individuals involved are not being released due to the comprehensive domestic violence law that the Massachusetts state legislature passed in 2014. The law shields the names of people who are arrested and charged with domestic violence.
The Incident
On Thursday, February 23, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Worcester Police responded to the area of 50 Franklin Street for a report of a large fight in the lobby. Upon arrival police were met in the lobby by a 20 year old man suffering from a laceration to his arm. Police observed a large amount of blood on the floor and walls of the lobby. The man told police that he had been stabbed by his female roommate, but refused to provide police with the roommate’s name or any additional details.
Officers checked the man’s apartment, but did not see any additional people inside. While waiting for an ambulance, police encountered an 18 year old woman in another area of the building. The woman was also suffering from a laceration to her hand. Police identified the female as the above male’s roommate.
The woman told police that she had gone to pick up her roommate in Webster earlier in the night. During the ride back to Worcester, the man became aggressive, starting a fight with other individuals in the car. At one point, the man began punching the driver of the car. He refused to exit the vehicle, and at one point spit in the woman’s face.
The woman got out of the car and went to her apartment at 50 Franklin Street to gather some belongings and leave for the night. While she was inside the apartment, the man returned. He kicked in the door to the apartment and attacked the woman, pinning her to the ground. During this time, the woman was able to access a folding knife and used it to defend herself, cutting the man’s arm. In the process of defending herself, the woman also cut her own hand.
During the struggle inside the apartment, the female began screaming for help. Another resident of the building overheard her screams and came to assist. This witness was able to confirm the woman’s version of events.
Both the suspect and the victim were treated on scene and transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals to be evaluated for their injuries. They are both expected to survive.
