Man Found Guilty of Heroin Distribution in Worcester

Thursday, August 04, 2016

A Worcester Superior Court jury found Jose Paulino, 36, of New York City guilty on the charge of distribution of heroin. He is being held pending sentencing.

Paulino's bail was revoked after he tried to leave the area while the jury was deliberating.

The Trial

Testimony for the case began on Monday in Worcester Superior Court. Paulino was charged with distribution of heroin stemming from a 2012 case in which members of the Worcester Police Vice Squad saw Paulino sell heroin to an individual in the area of Vernon Hill Park in Worcester.

Testimony in the case ended on Tuesday.

While the jury was deliberating, Paulino left the court and entered his car which was parked in a nearby parking lot. Due to the fact that police believed him to be a flight risk, members of the Worcester Police Vice Squad followed him in their unmarked cars. They saw Paulino enter 290 headed west at a high speed. He began driving in an erratic manner, driving at a speed of approximately 85 miles an hour, and weaving in and out of traffic. A marked Worcester Police cruiser attempted to stop Paulino, but he did not comply.

Police chased Paulino on 290 West for approximately 5 miles. At this time, Massachusetts State Police arrived to assist in the chase. Paulino eventually pulled over on 395 South in Oxford and was placed under arrest for failure to stop for the police.
