The Incident
On Thursday, October 6, 2016 members of the Gang Unit and Operations were conducting surveillance at 79 Constitution Avenue, officers had in their possession a search warrant for the premises.
At approximately 6:00 p.m., the undercover officers saw the target of the warrant, Henry Lopez, 24, of the Constitution address, leave the apartment and get into his car and drive away.
The undercover officers called for a marked patrol unit to stop the car, and it was stopped at Lincoln Plaza where Lopez was detained.
Inside the car was his 27-year old female companion along with their three young children, one of them only 3 weeks old. Lopez was taken back to the apartment while the officers conducted the search.
Inside the apartment was Carlos Lopez, 46, of the same address. Carlos is the father of Henry.
Officers made arrangements with a family friend to pick up the children and remove them from the scene of the car stop. After the children were removed from the scene the girlfriend was transported back to the apartment.
Officers conducted a thorough search of the apartment. The search produced a fanny pack that contained several individual bags of marijuana that were packaged for sale. The search also discovered a purse that contained cocaine. Police then found cocaine and more marijuana in the kitchen.
A female officer was called to the scene and searched Henry’s girlfriend. That search produced $875.00 in cash.
The drugs and cash were all seized as evidence.
