Worcester Man Arrested After Assaulting Man With Gun

Wednesday, August 17, 2016

Jamie Powell, 24, of Worcester was arrested and charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon as well as threatening to commit a crime on Monday evening after he threatened another man with a gun before trying to run him over in his car.

The victim was not injured during this incident and Powell turned himself in at the police station.

The Incident

Worcester Police were sent to the area of 150 Stafford Street for a report of an attempted armed robbery. Upon arrival, police met with a 22 year old man as well as  several witnesses.

Police were told that the victim was walking on Stafford Street when a dark colored Hyundai Elantra pulled up behind him. A man known to the victim as Jamie Powell, 24, of 24 Cleveland Ave, Worcester exited the car. Powell ran up from behind the victim while pointing a small black firearm at him. When the victim turned and saw Powell, Powell got back into his vehicle. Powell then attempted to run the victim over with his car.

The victim was struck in the leg by the car.

After the assault, Powell fled the scene in his car. Initial attempts to locate Powell at his residence were unsuccessful. At approximately 10:00 PM, Powell turned himself in at the  Police Station lobby where he was placed under arrest without incident.
