Worcester Teenagers Arrested for Carrying a Loaded Gun

Thursday, February 23, 2017

Worcester police chased down and arrested two Worcester teenage boys who were seen in possession with a gun in the area of Oberlin Street.

One teen is being charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and disturbing the peace.

The second teenager is being charged with carrying a loaded firearm, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, assault and battery on a police officer, disturbing the peace, intimidation of a witness, improper storage of a firearm, and possession of a class D substance without intent to distribute.

The Incident

On Tuesday, February 21 at approximately 4:40 p.m., Worcester Police responded to the area of 1 Oberlin Street for a report of a person with a gun. Police were told that a witness had just saw two teenagers in the area of Main and Oberlin Streets, and that one of them had just tucked a gun into his waistband. The caller stated that the teenager with the gun was wearing all dark clothing, and that the second teen with him was wearing a red sweatshirt.

Police responded to the area and saw two teenage boys walking nearby in the area of May and Kingsbury Streets. They matched the description given by the caller. Upon seeing police in the area, the teenager in the red sweatshirt (later identified as a 16 year old male from Worcester) immediately fled on foot while the one in dark clothing (also a 16-year-old male from Worcester) continued walking away from officers up May Street.

Officers gave chase to the boy in the red sweatshirt as other officers were able to stop the one in dark clothing. While chasing the boy in the red sweatshirt, officers saw him reaching towards the area of his waistband. Officers ordered him to stop and show his hands, but he refused. Officers continued chasing the juvenile and could now clearly see that the boy was running while holding a gun in his right hand.

Officers chased the boy behind the Mayside Apartments and eventually caught up to him in the area of 31 Mayside Lane. The juvenile refused to comply, and officers were forced to tackle him to the ground. While on the ground, the juvenile violently resisted, punching one of the officers in the face. Eventually, police were able to control the juvenile and place him into handcuffs.

When apprehended, the juvenile no longer had the gun. Officers checked the immediate vicinity of the where the juvenile was taken into custody and located a loaded .25 caliber handgun.

Officers also searched a backpack that the juvenile was carrying and discovered an amount of marijuana, a digital scale, and packaging material.

After both boys were placed into custody, officers received confirmation that the boy in the dark clothing stopped by other officers was the one who originally was seen placing the gun into his waistband. While waiting to be transported to the station for processing, both  boys started screaming at and arguing with officers on scene.

The juvenile in the dark clothing is being charged with Carrying a Loaded Firearm w/out a License, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, and Disturbing the Peace.

The juvenile in the red sweatshirt is being charged with Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Disturbing the Peace, Intimidation of a Witness, Improper Storage of a Firearm, and Possession of a Class D Substance w/ Intent to Distribute.
